Cycling among the trees

Cycling among the trees

We often like to traverse the local terrain in search of new tree species and samples.

The Ontario Green Belt is an ecologically diverse area and we can find many different species in a short distance on the bicycle.

Being near the Great Lakes, it is common to find areas which have eroded over several thousand years. This creates some unique landscapes and many waterfalls to enjoy. These areas have a unique ecology of their own.

These can cause challenges for many trees, as the root systems can easily be washed away when there is a great amount of precipitation.

Fortunately many species have taken this as an opportunity, and thrive on the increased water intake that they receive.

Pine and spruce plantations are sometimes utilized as wildlife habitats and are protected by the local conservation authority. It is always a tranquil experience to travel through.
