Native to the warmer climates in southern Ontario, Sassafras is a small tree with aromatic leaves that is common in areas close to water. Known for its distinctive green leaves, they come in three forms, oval-shaped, single lobed and double lobed - often all on the same tree. Short-lived and fast growing, sassafras enjoys partial shade and full sun. Leaves turn a yellow to orange colour in the fall time. Fruits are small, 1cm large, oval shaped and dark blue coloured containing one small seed each.
Germination: Soak in water for 12 hours. Cold stratify for 120 days. Plant 1-2cm deep in sterile potting mix.
