(Taxus brevifolia)

Pacific Yew is a low-growing evergreen conifer native to the moist old-growth forests and riparian zones of British Columbia as well as some inland regions. A slow growing tree, 5-10 or maximum 20m tall, it has dark green flat needle-like leaves that are soft to the touch. Bark is flaky, and brown to reddish-purple. A shade tolerant tree, it prefers moist soils with adequate drainage and nutrition. The seeds are borne in red, fleshy structures called arils that surround the seed. Wood from yew is known to be durable and resistant to rot.

HIGHLY TOXIC TO HUMANS & LIVESTOCK: The seeds, bark, and foliage of Taxus brevifolia contain dangerous taxine alkaloids. Do not ingest.
