(Catalpa speciosa)
Northern catalpa, known for its large green heart-shaped leaves and beautiful blossoms in the summer, is a popular deciduous broadleaf ornamental tree planted in Ontario and other provinces. It grows tall, up to 35m with a broad crown. The fruit is a long 10-20cm, bean-like seed pod that contains its many seeds. A drought and heat tolerant tree, it thrives is many soil types and is fast-growing.
Germination: Soak in water for 24 hours. No cold stratification required. Plant in moist potting soil.
