(Alnus incana)
Grey alder is a multi-stemmed smaller tree that lives predominantly in wet areas across the northern hemisphere. It enjoys a cool climate and commonly occupies riverbanks, swamps and wetlands in Canada. Alders have smooth grey bark even in older individuals. Leaves are a dull green, ovoid, 5-10cm long and turn yellow in the fall time. It reproduces via catkins, 1-2cm long which mature in the autumn.
Germination: Soak in water for 24 hours. Cold stratify for 90 days. Sow seed 1-2cm deep in a moist soil bed.
