(Pinus heldreichii)
Bosnian pine is native to the Balkans and Italy but is a very cold-hardy tree as well. It can grow up to 35m tall and up to 2m in diameter in good conditions. Known for its longevity, some specimens found growing in their native areas are over 1000 years old. Leaves are deep green, in groups of 2, 5-10cm long. The cones are brown, 5-9cm long and egg shaped. Its bark is light grey and scaly in mature trees. Bosnian pine has a conical growth habit and will grow in a wide variety of soil conditions.
Germination: Soak in water for 24 hours. Cold stratify for 60 days. Sow 1-2cm deep in a sterile potting mix.
