American holly is a small evergreen tree native to eastern North America. It grows in moderately cold climates to very warm climates alike. Growing up to 10 or 15m in large specimens, its leaves are yellow-green, and shaped into several sharp spikes on the tips. Its fruit is a small red drupe 5-10mm in diameter that is seen in the fall season. Trees grow best in acid pH soils. They prefer moist, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. A popular Christmas ornament, mature holly boughs can be a nice decoration.

Germination: Soak seeds in water for 24 hours. Warm stratify for 60 days, cold stratify for 60 days. Sow seeds 1-2cm deep in sterile potting mix.
