(Rubus occidentalis)

Growing up to 2-3m in height, this hardy shrub is known to grow in high traffic areas such as trails, rivers, and at the roadside. It thrives in areas with well-draining soil and full sun, such as meadows and the edges of fields. In spring, it produces a small 5-petaled white flower. In the summer, the edible dark red-purple berries can be made into purees, juices, jam, or eaten directly for a tasty treat.

Germination: Soak the seeds for 12-24 hours before planting. Choose a container with draining holes to remove excess water. Ideally use a seed-starter potting mix and sow the seeds just under the surface. Cold stratify for 60-90 days in the fridge, covered. Ensure they stay moist. Return to room temperature for germination to occur. Germination typically occurs 30-90 days afterward.
