Shagbark hickory is a distinctive species of hickory native to Southern Ontario. A deciduous tree known for its shaggy grey bark and very hard wood, this species also produces an edible nut that is sought after by wildlife and enjoyed by some people as well. Shagbark hickory can grow to be a large tree over 25m tall and more than 200 years old.

Germination: Soak in water for 24 hours and let dry. Repeat process several times, then cold stratify for 120 days. Sow 1-2cm deep in a moist seed bed.
