(Pinus attenuata)
Knobcone pine can grow in the milder climates of British Columbia and is native to California and Oregon. Its needle-like leaves come in fascicles of three, 10-15cm long and with a yellow-green colour. Cones are 8-16cm, pale brown or tan, sealed with resin, with an asymmetric shape curved to one side. The cones often persist on the tree for many seasons after forming. It tolerates poor soils well and grows with a conical crown and straight trunk reaching 25m in height or in a shrub like form in poor conditions. Occasionally the trees can hybridize with Bishop pine and Monterey pine.
Germination: Soak in water for 24 hours. Cold stratify for 60 days. Sow 1-2cm deep in sterile potting mix.
Packet contains at least 50 seeds.
