An excellent all-around tree and widely used in the art of Bonsai, Japanese Black Pine is an easy to grow tree that has a variety of uses. Like most pines it enjoys full sun and well-drained sandy soils and can grow to an old age.
American Sycamore
(Platanus occidentalis)
A fast-growing deciduous tree that can grow to a very large size, American Sycamore enjoys hot climates and thrives in the southernmost parts of Ontario. It can be readily identified by its scaly and patchy bark with multiple different colours as well as its spherical fruits that are in fact radial clusters of seeds.
Macedonian Pine
(Pinus peuce)
Native to the balkan regions in southern Europe, Macedonian pine can grow well in southern Ontario and is a very nice ornamental pine tree. Perfect for landscaping purposes and an interesting tree in the garden.
Chinese Pine
(Pinus tabuliformis)
Chinese pine or table pine is a tree that grows well in Southern Ontario and is simple to germinate. An excellent tree for the garden or parks, it has a table-shaped crown with long branches spreading horizontally outwards from the tree.
Canaan Fir
(Abies balsamea var. pharanolepis)
Canaan fir, thought to be a hybrid of Balsam Fir and Fraser Fir, is technically considered a subspecies of Balsam fir with longer seed bracts and a colour more approaching Fraser fir. Like most firs, it enjoys a moist environment, can grow in the shade and is a slow-growing tree unless in full sunlight.
