(Pinus maximartinezii)
This unique species of pine native to Mexico has the largest seeds of any species, with the nuts weighing several grams each. The tree is small with massive cones for its size, which contain the 2-3cm long seeds that weigh several grams each. Foliage of this species is a very attractive blue shade and the tree often grows juvenile foliage well into adulthood giving it a unique look among pines. Maxipinyon does not survive freezing temperatures and should be grown in climate zone 10 (minimum temp 0-4 C)
Germination: Soak in water for 24 hours, then cold stratify for 30 days. Sow seeds 1-2cm deep in a sandy soil medium.
